How do I install MyService?

Simply download the appropriate MyService installer and run it. When asked, specify the folder where MyService must be installed.

Note: You can specify the folder where an older MyService version is already installed; in such case, the installer will upgrade MyService but keep your old data. For more information on upgrading MyService, see the next question.

After installing, MyService can be launched either by double clicking the desktop icon or through the Start menu.

How can I upgrade MyService to a newer version?

To upgrade MyService to a newer version, proceed as follows:

1.     Download the latest MyService installation package from the MyService website.

2.     Launch the installation package and, when asked for a folder where MyService should be installed, select the folder where your previous MyService version is located.

Note: The MyService installer will not rewrite the MyService.mdb file, which contains your MyService data, if it detects that this file is present in the selected installation folder. This file must be retained from the previous version if you want to keep your old data. If the MyService.mdb file is not present in the selected installation folder, the installer will create a blank database.

3.     Launch the new MyService version.

After startup, MyService will offer to upgrade your old database if it is outdated. Before upgrading the database, make a backup copy of your MyService.mdb file.

If any problems occur during the upgrade, please contact the author.

Does MyService run on a personal digital assistant (PDA) or smartphone?

No. MyService runs only on PC computers with the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Do I have to pay for MyService?

No. MyService is free but you have to follow the conditions of use.

What are the conditions for using MyService?

MyService is free. You do not have to pay for using it.

However, you can use MyService only if:

*         You are an active Jehovah's Witness.

*         You do not use MyService for commercial purposes.

Can I make copies of MyService and give them to others?

Yes, but only if people who get MyService follow the conditions of use.

Is there some way how I can back up my data?

All information entered in MyService is stored in the file called MyService.mdb, which is in the same folder where MyService.exe is located. If you want, you can periodically make copies of the MyService.mdb file. In case of emergency, you can restore information from a backup file by copying it back into the folder where MyService is installed.

Can I use the same database with a different MyService language version?

Yes. MyService.mdb files from different language versions are compatible and do not have to be migrated. You can use the same database with any MyService language version.

I would like to translate MyService to my language. What should I do?

That is a very good idea and you are more than welcome to do that!

MyService is more or less internationalized. It means that it can be easily translated into other languages. Translating MyService is very easy and does not require any programming skills. Here is a typical process for translating MyService:

1.     First of all, you get familiar with MyService so that you know what is being translated.

2.     You send me an email saying that you volunteer to translate MyService.

3.     I send you a specific text file containing all UI strings in English (or any other language of your choice) and detailed instructions on how to translate the file.

4.     You create a translated version of the file using Notepad, WordPad, or any other plain text editor preserving any special characters.

It should not take more than a few hours if you are familiar with MyService.

5.     You send the translated file to me and I compile a test version of MyService in your language.

6.     I send you the compiled MyService version for testing.

7.     You try out MyService (by entering special characters, viewing text in all windows, etc.) and report any bugs and places for improvement to me.

8.     I create the final translated version of MyService and publish it on the website.

If you still have energy after that, we can make special arrangements regarding translating MyService help but that would take much more time and effort and may require constant maintenance in future. But please let me know if you are willing to do that.
